Brief History of Airtel in Nigeria
In terms of mobile phone service in Nigeria, Airtel Networks Limited, also known as Airtel Nigeria, is a frontrunner. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said on 30 August 2019 that Airtel Nigeria had 46.8 million subscribers, or 26.8 percent of the mobile telephone market in Nigeria. It is owned by Bharti Airtel, which is a member of Airtel Africa and hence active in 14 different African nations.
Econet Nigeria is a licensed telecommunications company in Nigeria, having first opened its doors in 2001. (DML). As the first telecoms service provider in Nigeria, it introduced commercial GSM services on August 5, 2001.
Vodacom became the company’s new management in 2004. By the end of 2004, Vee Networks had taken over and renamed itself Vmobile. Back in May of 2006, Celtel made the purchase of Vmobile. In 2008, another telecom company called Zain Group spent close to $3 billion to acquire all of Celtel International’s shares.
